i have two sites using databases (wordpress) sites....
i backup every night using whm's backup. as soon as the backup process starts neither site can connect to the database. after the backup procedure i have to restart mysql and then the sites work fine....is there any way to keep mysql running during or after the backup so these sites can stay online?
thanks in advance,
ww : )

Do you have any log files you can show us when this happens? Anything we give you right now would just be a guess.

MySQL logs would be good. /var/log/mysql
/var/log/messages might have some info pertaining to errors.
Also, when the issue occurs, try to log into mysql from the command prompt and type "show full processlist;".
You may need to time it right, and log into mysql before to the backups being run(in case it maxes out the number of allowed sockets).

i am just now getting back to this issue and opened a trouble ticket and got this response....doesn't seem right to me....shouldn't sites based on php/mysql still work during normal daily backups?
Dear Warren,
I'm concerned that if mysql is running during the backup that there would be the chance for database corruption. You could write a script that would check for the cpbackup still running, and if it doesn't find it running, the script could restart mysql.

I just got off of the cPanel.net forums reading about this. Its a knwo issue that will not be addressed until the next major release ofcPanel. I guess we patiently wait.
