Hi there

could anybody help please.I am a newbie to this so bear with me...

I have bought two domain names from 123-reg.I have a server with The planet. This may sound like kiddy stuff but
1. How do i transfer my domain names so that when users type in http://www.mysite.com they are taken to my index page which will be hosted on the server i have with the Planet? i believe it is something to do with the nameserver at 123-reg but then it gets confusing.

and once i sort it out at 123-reg is there anything i need to do in my admin section of The planet?

To put it in a nutshell i would like to know what i need to do to transfer my domain name over to my server at the planet and configure it so as people can access my webpages..does any of this make sense?

please help if you can

Ok...few questions here.

The server you have with TP...is it linux or windows?

Second: Do you have a control panel?...if not it sounds like your going to want to get one.

What you need to do, is change your nameservers with 123 reg so they use TP's name servers.

Once that is done...submit a DNS change ticket to TP so they can add your domain to their servers.

firstly thanx for your help. The server i have with TP is Centos Enterprise Linux, Version 5. I have changed my nameservers with 123 reg. and I have just submitted DNS change ticket.
Why do you think i need the control panel? is it esiar to administer my server that way?

The last step is to create the account on your server. This is where the control panel helps. Sure, you can do it all manually if you like, however, even if you have only a few accounts a control panel is useful. If you are just going to have a few accounts you could use a free panel like webmin.com (with virtualmin) or if you're going to sell hosting a commercial panel like DA or cPanel is a better way to go.

You actually don't need a control panel if you're good with ssh but for beginners I'd order one up.

And do it now, because you want that panel installed before you start fooling with the sites because of the path, some cps' will change the root path to your site(s) and in this example ensim is no exception (not sure about cpanel) but either way get the panel THEN deal with the sites, please.

As for accounts:
You already have one, your password should be the same as for orbit and your username is root
I'ma leave it at that but sooner or later you'll want to get into ssh as well but later.

You can create more accounts once you get into your panel, that's the easy way.
